Defense Minister Ehud Barak participated on Friday afternoon in a memorial service marking 30 days since the death of poet Haim Hefer, who died at the age of 86 during Rosh Hashanah. In his remarks Barak referred to Hefer's time in the Palmach.
"As defense minister I say to you, the Hefer family and the Palmach family, look back with pride and forward with hope and sobriety," said Barak. "The legacy of the Palmach and its non-surrendering is alive and well in the IDF through the generations. The esponsibility for Israel's security and empowerment is the focus of our attention and action."
