Shas Leaders Hold Historic Reconciliation Meeting

Former Shas Party leader Aryeh Deri and current leader Interior Minister Eli Yishai met in a closed private meeting on Wednesday. Minister of Housing and Construction Ariel Atias, also a Shas member, attended as well. The leaders agreed to work together and lay aside any past differences.
The Shas party is currently the fourth largest party in the Knesset with 11 seats. In the past it has been the third largest party. Founded in 1984, Shas is an acronym for Shomrei Sfarad, and mainly represents religious Israelis with roots in the Sephardic, Middle Eastern and North African Diaspora communities, however many others such as secular Sephardic Israelis and Ethiopian Israelis feel akin to the party as well.
