Immigrant Candidates Say No to Preferential Treatment

Likud candidates Minister Yuli Edelstein and MK Zev Elkin have written a letter to the party’s legal advisor, attorney Avi Levy, asking to cancel a promise to give one of the Likud’s current representatives a guaranteed slot on the next list as an immigrant to Israel. Likud sets aside slots for representatives of certain groups, including women, immigrants, Jerusalem residents, and more, to ensure that each are represented in the Knesset faction.

“We have complete trust in Likud members’ judgment, and in their ability to choose a balanced national list that gives expression ot the various groups and sectors in Israeli society, including new immigrants,” Edelstein and Elkin wrote. “We do not think that we deserve preferential treatment in relation to the rest of those in the Knesset faction.”
