Likud Sources: Senior Mizrachi Needed

Senior sources in the Likud party have expressed concern about the announced "time out" of Minister Moshe Cachlon from political life, not only because of his personal qualities, but because he was a prominent Mizrachi (Oriental) Jew. They feel his absence could lead to electoral losses, given the fact that more than 70 percent of those who vote for the Likud are estimated to be secular and traditional members of the Mizrachi community.

If another prominent Mizrachi is not found, the only one in the party's ranks will be Deputy Prime Minister Silvan Shalom.
