Minister for Homefront Defense Avi Dichter presented a plan Wednesday for a drill in several days’ time that will see response teams pretending to deal with the aftermath of a major earthquake. Eighty municipalities are to take part.
The drill will assume a quake with two epicenters, one in Eilat and one in the Houla region. The scenario includes 7,000 dead, 70,000 injured and 170,000 displaced from their homes. During the drill there will be a tsunami warning, and responders will have to react as if six-meter waves hit the Haifa bay region, a beach in Netanya, and the mouth of the Yarkon River.
