Preschool Teachers Threaten Strike over Toilet Training

The Histadrut Hamorim teachers' union is threatening to strike public pre-schools sometime after tomorrow's Shemini Atzeret/Simchat Torah holiday. The union is demanding the hiring of additional aides to deal with tens of thousands of three and four year olds who have entered the system, this year, under the government's "free education from age three" program who have not been toilet trained.

Pre-school teachers also say that pre-school infrastructure is inadequate to deal with the situation. In a September letter to the heads of local government, who are responsible for hiring the aides, union head Yossi Wasserman wrote that an impossible situation has been created, explaining that there were no basic conditions for cleaning and putting new diapers on untrained toddlers.
