The Palestinian Authority is planning to begin rehiring teachers who were fired for “security reasons” due to their affiliation with Hamas, the Bethlehem-based Maan news reports. The move follows a PA court order to reverse the firings.
Several hundred Hamas supporters were fired from PA jobs for “security reasons” after the bloody Fatah-Hamas confrontation in late 2006 and subsequent split between the groups. Hamas fired Fatah supporters in Gaza, but they continue to receive salaries from the PA in Ramallah.
