“The Israeli prisoner in Egypt must be released before Eid al-Adha at the end of the month, thus completing the original agreement with Egypt” deputy minister Ayoub Kara said Wednesday. Kara was responding to reports that he has been working opposite the new Egyptian administration for Ouda Tarabin’s release.
Ouda Tarabin is an Israeli Bedouin man who was arrested by Egyptian forces in 2000, at age 19, for illegally crossing the border. He was told that he had been tried in absentia and sentenced for espionage before entering the country, and was jailed. He remains in prison.
