President Shim'on Peres visited the Sukkah of former Sephardic Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yoseph, Tuesday morning. Referring to the Iranian nuclear threat during remarks to those in attendance, Peres said that Iranian President Mahmoud "Ahmadinejad is like the modern Haman [villain of the Book of Esther, which took place in Persia, forerunner of Iran -ed.] of our generation and all must be done to stop him. We would be happy to be rid of him if it could be done in non-military ways."
The rabbi wished the president long life and alluded to the Iranian threat by saying, "G-d will respond to our enemies by giving them what they deserve in their head." Drawing from one of the daily readings from the Book of Psalms, he continued, "Pour out your wrath upon them. May we all merit to sit securely and may our enemy depart."
