An Arab who stole calves from Kibbutz Malkiyah in northern Israel was sentenced to four years in prison on Sunday. The thefts occurred when the Arab, from the village of Tuba Zangriya, worked in the kibbutz during February 2012, and stole three calves. The Arab and an accomplice loaded the calves onto a truck and wildly drove out of the kibbutz. One of the calves was killed on the way.
Besides the jail sentence, the culprit is to pay a fine, as well as compensation to the kibbutz. Kibbutz members, along with Israel Cattle Growers Association, praised the decision, saying that the recent redoubling of enforcement by authorities against the ongoing problem of cattle theft was proving itself.
