Mass Protests in Spain, Portugal

Tens of thousands of people conducted a mass protest in Spain and Portugal over austerity plans and budget cuts that have created high unemployment and increasing poverty levels. The protests over the weekend were relatively calm, after protests last week turned violent, with protesters in Spain clashing with police outside Spanish government buildings.

There were several riots reported after the main protest Saturday, with protesters throwing firebombs and rocks at police, after police said that the group did not have a permit for a second protest.
