Brigadier-General Eitan Dangot, Israel's Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) reported, Thursday, that Israel recently approved a request by the Palestinian Authority to transfer 100 million shekels to Gaza out of the 250 million recently transferred to the PA by Israel. The funds are intended to help Gaza banks deal with a shortage of cash. Israel approved, today, through COGAT, the exporting of furniture from Gaza to PA-assigned areas of Judea and Samaria (Shomron). Thursday's export consisted of 35 tons of furniture for the PA's Education Ministry, which were transported in three tractor-trailers via the Kerem Shalom Crossing, where a freight supervisor has been added to allow more traffic.
Last week, 16 internationally-funded school, housing and infrastructure projects were approved for the Hamas-controlled area, while construction materials and equipment, including automobiles, were released for Gaza's private sector. Israel also approved a program to advance the completion of an infrastructure connection in the area of Kibbutz Nachal Oz to increase the Gaza water supply by five million cubic meters.
