Lithuanian Government Remembers Menachem Begin

A ceremony to unveil a monument in memory of former prime Minister Menachem Begin is scheduled to take place, Monday afternoon, at the Lukiškės Prison in Vilnius, where he was held, interrogated and tortured by Soviet authorities because of his Zionist activities, more than 70 years ago.

The memorial was made at the request of the Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem to the Lithuanian government a few months ago. Center head Herzl Makov and Agriculture Minister Orit Noked will represent Israel at the ceremony, which will be attended by Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.
