Olmert Sentencing Set for Monday Morning

Sentencing is scheduled, Monday morning in the Jerusalem District Court for former prime minister Ehud Olmert on his conviction for breach of trust in the Investment Center case. Sentencing is also scheduled for former Olmert office manager Shula Zaken, who was convicted in the Rishon Tours case, where Olmert was found not guilty of double billing for trips abroad.

It is believed that if Olmert receives less than three months community service, he will be able to return to political life after he waived legal privileges to which he was entitled and prosecutors cancelled their demand for a label of moral turpitude on the conviction, which would ban him from holding office. Calls for him to return to lead the Kadima party, which have been muted in deference to current chairman Shaul Mofaz, have grown louder.
