UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Sunday asked Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to avoid using extreme rhetoric during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly this week. The remarks were made during a meeting between the two in New York.

"Ban turned the Iranian President’s attention to the serious consequences that are likely to arise from an impassioned and defiant speech and from threats from Middle Eastern countries,” Ban's office said following the meeting.
