An indictment was issued Sunday against three Israelis who were accused of helping a Hamas terrorist kidnapping an Eritrean refugee in Sinai. The kidnapping was for ransom purposes, with the Hamas terrorist, a resident of Gaza, working with the two Israelis to extort NIS 50,000 from the Eritrean's family. The Israelis acted as a go-between for the family and Arab, and delivered the cash to a Jerusalem Arab who was working with the Hamas terrorist, a service for which they received $600. The Jerusalem Arab was indicted as well, and police plan to charge a fourth Israeli in the case.
Police have asked for an extension of their remand, and they may be charged with additional crimes, including working with terrorists. The two said they had been told that the Eritrean owed the Arab money and they were helping him to reclaim the funds. Police said that the money was to be forwarded to Hamas for use in terror attacks against Israelis.
