IDF Officer: Sinai Infiltrations Not Uncommon

Guy Biton, commander of the IDF's Sagi Brigade, which patrols the southern border, said that Friday's terror attack by Arab infiltrators was not the only attempt by terrorists to enter Israel from Sinai in recent months. Biton said that the IDF was prepared to deal with terror groups infiltrating Israel from Sinai. “There is no doubt that there are many terror gangs in Sinai,” he said, “including terrorists who enter Sinai from Gaza and then try to infiltrate Israel.” Corporal Netanel Yahalomi, 20, was killed in the attack by terrorists on an IDF patrol Friday at the Sinai border.

Biton said that there was no connection between groups of African refugees who have taken up residence along the border in the hope that they can enter Israel, and the terror gangs. He added that the IDF had good relations with the Egyptian army in the area, and that together both armies had prevented a number of security incidents.
