North Korean plane banned from entering Iraqi air space

In what has been called a “positive step” by the U.S. State Department, Iraq prevented a North Korean plane from entering its airspace on Thursday on the suspicion that the aircraft was armed with weapons headed for Syria.

This step follows accusations by American officials who claim Iraq has been allowing Iran to use Iraqi airspace to send weapons to Syrian forces, according to the New York Times. Although Iraq has denied these accusations the State Department continues to urge the Iraqi government to, “take additional steps to prevent others, including Iran, from abusing its airspace by shipping arms to Syria.”
