Dankner: I'm Committed to Ma'ariv Workers' Rights

The IDB Group, headed by businessman Nochi Dankner, issued its first statement, Friday, about Thursday's sale of the Ma'ariv daily to Makor Rishon publisher Shlomo Ben-Tzvi. The statement said that in the months leading up to the sale, Dankner struggled for the newspaper's survival and the rights of its workers. It added that all proceeds from the sale of the paper and its Bat Yam printing house will go to a fund for debt payment and preservation of worker's rights.

Regarding Thursday's worker protests, the statement said that Dankner had told representatives of the employees and the Histadrut Labor Federation that if there was still a gap despite proceeds from the sale, he would recommend to the directors of the Discount Investment Corporation that they transfer a proportional part of the difference to the workers and that other Ma'ariv partners would follow suit.
