Most of the indices on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange closed the holiday-shortened trading week, Thursday, with modest to moderate gains. The TA Composite Index closed at 1,006.64, up .12 percent for the day, while the TA 100 rose .14 percent to 1,016.87, including a .02-percent advance to 1,138.33 by the Maof 25 most-widely-invested issues.
Leading the way were the real-estate stocks, which finished the day at 253.14, up 1.89, percent, followed by the communications and media index, which jumped 1.87 percent to 467.75. Most of the technology issues closed at 358.67, up 1.05 percent, while the biotech stocks advanced .76 percent to 720.29. The bank index rose .56 percent to 896.81 as the financial institutions finished the day at 811.34, up .38 percent, including a .22-percent advance to 815.27 by the insurance issues. The Ma'ala organization's index of 16 socially-responsible companies rose .42 percent to 736.58, while the oil and natural stocks declined .28 percent to 975.14.
