Religious IDF Givati Fighters to Shave Beards?

According to IDF regulations, religious soldiers can keep their beards. On the eve of Rosh Hashana, the IDF Givati Brigade commander assembled the corps and informed them that they must shave their beards to improve their appearance, and would only be able to acquire a beard-growing approval via special committee – whom they must appear before clean-shaven. The commander added that he would instruct the committee to deny all beard appeals.

The IDF spokesman explained that the Givati commander was only enforcing IDF regulations, and was not ordering all religious soldiers to remove their beards.
