Celebrated poet Chaim Hefer passed away on Rosh Hashannah at the age of 86. Hefer won an Israel Prize for his poetry and songs. He wrote or helped to write more than 1,000 songs in his lifetime.

Hefer “was the last of a great generation,” said Yankele Mendel, chairman of the Israel Artists’ Organization. “His death is a great loss.”
