      Consumer Price Index Up 1% in August


      The Consumer Price Index rose in August by 1%, according to data published on Friday by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

      Increases were especially noted in the price of cigarettes (14.2%), fruits and vegetables (7.9%), culture and entertainment (2.0%), transportation (1.8%), housing (1.1%), food (0.9%) and furniture (0.6%).

      Decreases in prices were noted in clothing and footwear (6.0%) and communications (1.1%).
