Yeshiva Student Yisrael Valas Released from Prison

After serving a sentence of four years, yeshiva student Yisrael Valas was released on Thursday from the Dekel prison in Be'er Sheva. Last week, the parole board of the Israel Prisons Service ruled that he can be released after one-third of his sentence was reduced due to good behavior.

Valas was arrested in April of 2006 on suspicion shaking his three-month-old son to death. During his interrogation, Valas first tried to claim that his wife was not at home at the time so he fed the baby and tried to get him to sleep. He then told his interrogators that when the baby did not fall asleep, he shook him firmly and the baby's head accidentally hit the wall.
