'Report Shows Ashkenazi Not Involved in Harpaz Letter'

Former chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi of the Israel Defense Forces reacted through his attorney, Thursday evening, to a draft of the state comptroller's report on what has come to be known as the Harpaz Affair; intrigues surrounding the selection of Ashkenazi's successor. More than two years ago, half a year before the end of Ashkenazi's term, a forgery by reserves officer Boaz Harpaz advised candidate Yoav Galant to engage in a smear campaign against other candidates for the job.

Ashkenazi's attorney said,  "A review of the preliminary draft version of the report clearly shows that Ashkenazi and those around him were not involved in  in writing the document, in its forgery or leaking it." The lawyer continued, "There are no business ties between Ashkenazi and those around him to Boaz Harpaz."
