Deputy Jerusalem Mayor: Zionist Population Grew in 5772

Deputy Mayor David Hadari of Jerusalem told Arutz Sheva, Thursday, that one of the city's accomplishments in the Jewish year 5772 was a growth in the Zionist population, as reflected in the growth of the number of kindergartens and first grades. He also pointed to the acceptance of the light-rail system in spite of the preliminary complaints, the construction of a number of public projects - including the start of an 10,000-seat indoor arena next to Teddy Stadium, and the budgeting of tens of millions of shekels for Arabs in the eastern part of the capital.

As chairman of the National Religious Party-National Union faction on the city council, he expressed hope that during the upcoming year, which begins Sunday evening, a religious Zionist candidate would be chosen as one of the city's chief rabbis in the person of Ashkenazi Rabbi Aryeh Stern. Other goals include development of the education system and expansion of religious services, including the construction and renovation of synagogues and ritual baths in additional neighborhoods.
