Rabbi Rahamim Nasimi, the founder and head of the Shaalei Torah movement has announced his candandicy for the Jewish Home Party (Bayit Yehudi). Rabbi Nasimi stated, "hopefully this will expand the party's target audience by connecting to the people and the land."
Shaalei Torah runs a system of garin Torani, or Torah seeds groups. Volunteers assist in different communities to lead synagogue services and conduct outreach programs. The groups focus on neighborhoods without a strong Jewish communal structure. Founded in the 1980s, Shaalei Torah runs programs for youth at risk and food delivery to the needy and religious events.
The Jewish Home party, formerly known as the National Religious Party is holding open primaries for the first time. Rabbi Nasimi will be running against the current chairman Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz, Member of Knesset Zevulun Orlev and businessman Naftali Bennett.
