Jewish Birthrate Highest in 34 Years

The Jewish birthrate was higher in 2011 than it has been since 1977, the Central Statistics Bureau reported Tuesday. The number of births was up to an average of 2.98 per woman.

The number of new immigrants was up as well. A total of 16,892 people immigrated to Israel in 2011, up by 1.5% from 2010.
