U.S. Opposes Abbas' Renewed Statehood Bid

The United States said on Monday it opposes Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ renewed bid for recognition of Palestine as a non-member state at the United Nations General Assembly.

Speaking to reporters, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said, “We continue to make clear that we believe that the only realistic path for the Palestinians to achieve statehood is through direct negotiations as called for by the Quartet, and we will continue to make that case as we head towards the UN General Assembly.”
