A senior Iranian official said Monday that he expected other countries to follow in Canada's wake and close their embassies in Tehran. The official was quoted in Iranian media as saying that other countries had indicated that they could follow Canada's lead, after pressure from the U.S. and other countries.

Canada announced last week that it was cutting off diplomatic relations with Iran, recalling its ambassador and sending the Iranian ambassador to Canada back to his home country.
