Commenting on the running down of a security officer at the Oranim checkpoint Sunday morning, Benny Katsover, head of the Samaria Residents Council, said that he and others in Judea and Samaria had long been voicing concerns over the “light touch” of the authorities on the problems of illegal aliens. “I would suggest that the Defense Minister deal with real problems like this, instead of figuring out ways to override the decision to turn Ariel's institution of higher learning into a university.”

Earlier Sunday, a truck carrying illegal Palestinian Authority workers ran over a security officer at the Oranim checkpoint Sunday morning. The officer was very seriously injured, and was treated on the spot by Igud Hatzalah rescue workers. He was taken to a hospital in Petach Tikvah for further treatment. The officer subsequently died of his wounds in the hospital.
