The European Union said over the weekend that it would examine how damaging the sanctions it had imposed previously on Iran had been, and will consider even further sanctions. EU foreign policy chief Katherine Ashton said that the EU would do everything possible to ensure that Iran fulfills its commitments on not developing nuclear weapons.

Ashton also said that the EU would increase its sanctions against Syria, and that all of Europe was united behind the idea.
