Names Committee to Reconsider Efrat's Change to Efrata

The government's Names Committee will meet soon to reconsider the decision, made 30 years ago, to officially change the name of the Judean Jewish community of Efrat to Efrata. While official documents and highway signs reflect the official spelling, more than 90 percent of the Gush Etzion town's residents and the sign at the community's entrance refer to it as Efrat.

A year-long initiative by the local council culminated Thursday when the committee that made the name change decided to accept the voice of the residents and change the name back to Efrat.
