Barak Seeks Closure of Sinai Border in Times of Danger

Defense Minister Ehud Barak has ordered a check of the possibility of enacting legislation that would allow security officials to close the Sinai border during hot alerts of attack or abduction attempts. The order followed assessments by the IDF and intelligence bodies.

Referring to the changing situation in the Sinai Peninsula, Barak said, during a Thursday assessment of the situation at the ministry, "Unfortunately, even during periods of very hot warnings of attacks or the possibility of the abduction of Israelis in the Sinai area, there are Israelis who ignore them and go to the peninsula. We must already act now and not wake up when there is an attack or an abduction."
