Teachers may Strike over Diapers

The Teachers’ Union has declared a work dispute with the Education Ministry over issues in the preschool system. The union is demanding an additional assistant in preschools for children ages 3 and 4.

In addition, the group has argued that preschool teachers and their administrative assistants should not be required to change the diapers of children who have not yet toilet trained. The daily schedule is thrown off when the teacher must change diapers, the group argued, and in addition, the situation is embarrassing for both the teacher and the children.

After declaring a dispute, the union will have the right to strike in two weeks if the issue is not resolved.
