Seventy generals from the Egyptian army and other senior office holders in the Supreme Military Council were given forced retirement, this week, by the country's new defense minister, General Abdel Fatah As-Sisi.

Egyptian media say As-Sisi received the orders "to retire" the generals during a meeting with President Mohammed Morsi.
