Samaria Residents Complain about Machsom Watch

Chairman Benny Katsover of the Samaria (Shomron) Residents' Council has written to Central District Commander Nitzan Alon of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and military censors, asking to examine the legal and operational possibility of stopping the group Machsom (Roadblock) Watch from writing analyses of IDF roadblocks and security checkpoints in Judea and Samaria and posting them on their Website. The reports discuss whether or not the roadblocks are staffed and the number of security forces where they are staffed. Katsover wrote that the reports also say which checkpoints are easier to go through and which have less stringent inspections, adding, "In our opinion, the women of Machsom Watch are passing along classified information, which would not pass censorship in any media, under the guise of "human rights."

Machsom Watch responded by saying, "The roadblocks aren't staffed and that's a fact. The things we write don't harm state security. There's nobody who doesn't know that the roadblocks aren't staffed. Thousands pass there every day. There's no secret here."
