Yair Lapid, of the newly-formed Yesh Atid party, wrote on his Facebook page about cases in which Sephardi young women were rejected by hareidi schools, apparently due to their ethnic background.
“182 young women in Jerusalem were not accepted to educational institutions in Jerusalem because they are Sephardi; 40 sephardi girls were not accepted in Modiin Illlt… 95 Sephardi young women were not accepted in Bnei Brak,” he said, referring to a story in the Hebrew-language daily Yediot Aharonot.
“There is no room for hesitation,” he declared. “Schools that practice discrimination must be closed immediately, their budgets must be withheld, the administrators should be put on trial. Racism must be fought, and not just with words.”
