Zerach Warhaftig was a delegate in the 17th through the 21st Zionist Congresses and helped thousands of Jews escape from the Nazis during World War II. He came to Israel before its establishment in 1048 and was elected to the Provisional State Council. He was one of signatories of the Declaration of Independence. He joined the Knesset after the 1961 elections and remained an MK until 1981.
