Fees that banks can charge on mortgage insurance will henceforth be limited, after a decision Sunday by Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz. The fee cannot exceed more than 20% of the total premium of the policy, according to the decision. The decision goes into effect on January 1, 2013, on new policies and renewals of existing policies.

Experts said that the new rule will lower the cost of mortgage insurance.
