Florida over the weekend declared a state of emergency over the impending arrival of Isaac, currently a tropical storm, but expected to grow into a hurricane. Officials urged tourists to leave coastal areas that were likely to be in the path of the storm. Governor Rick Scott ordered preparation of shelters and urged local officials to ensure that there jurisdictions were prepared. At least three people were reported killed as the storm swept through Haiti Saturday.

Travelers were warned to expect significant delays in getting into and out of Florida. As a result of the storm, the Republican National Committee announced a delay in the start of the Republican convention; originally set to open Monday, it has been delayed at least 24 hours, and may be delayed further if the storm follows worst-case scenario predictions.
