It was announced this week that the Afimilk company of Kibbutz Afikim in the northern Jordan Valley has won a $500 million contract to build 13 advanced milking parlors for China's Mengniu Dairy. Afimilk's Deputy Marketing Director, Rona Biana, said each parlor will handle about 4,000 cows, or a total of more than 50,000 head, and the deal will include technology for herd management.
While Mengniu is China's largest distributor of dairy products - with a third of the market, it has depended, until now, on smaller dairies. The tender - the largest ever in the Chinese dairy industyr - is part of Mengniu's efforts to become more independent and achieve more quality control. Afimilk is the world leader in technology for the dairy and sheep industries.
