Egypt resumed, Thursday, its campaign to destroy smuggling tunnels along the Sinai-Gaza border, according to the Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency. A security source in Cairo told Ma'an that the operation will continue for a long number of days. Egypt suspects Gaza-based terrorists in the recent murder of 16 soldiers in an attack on Rafah-area bases.
Egypt is using explosives to destroy the openings of the tunnels west of the Rafah border crossing. Gaza sources told the news agency that the closing of the tunnels has resulted in a rise in the price of goods that used to be brought into the Hamas-controlled area via the tunnels.
