The biomed stocks led the gainers, closing at 712.45, up .48 percent, while the rest of the technology index fell six tenths of a percent to 347.35. The real estate issues rose .32 percent, while the oil and natural gas stocks declined three quarters of a percent to 928.56. The financial institutions finished the day at 757.57, down .79 percent; the bank index falling .85 percent to 854.14, while the insurance issues closed at 725.09, down .94 percent. The communications and media stocks declined .99 percent to 413.38.
