Chief Ashkenazi rabbi Rabbi Yona Metzger expressed confidence that the German parliament will protect citizens’ right to choose ritual circumcision for their children. He told Kol Yisrael radio that conversations regarding the matter had left him with the impression that there was unanimous support for allowing circumcision.

A German court recently ruled that circumcision of children is not legal, in a case involving the circumcision of a four-year-old Muslim boy. The case has been followed by a lawsuit against a rabbi over the circumcision of a Jewish infant.
