Report: Egypt to Send Tanks, Planes into Sinai

In the wake of a visit Monday by Egypt's new Defense Minister, Abd al-Fatah a-Sisi, to the Egyptian side of the Rafiach border between Gaza and Sinai, Egyptian sources quoted in Arab media said that Egypt was planning to send tanks and planes into Sinai. If correct, this would be the first time since 1973 that Egyptian heavy armor was in Sinai, and would be a gross violation of the Camp David Accords.

The source said that the Egyptian forces were planning to attack a large concentration of Islamist terrorists who are hiding in central Sinai.
