Report: Supplementary Insurance Required for Some Drugs

Health-fund members who do not have supplementary insurance are barred from buying certain drugs at their health-fund pharmacies if the drugs are not included in the "basket" of government-subsidized drugs, according to a Monday morning report by Kol Yisrael government radio. The prohibition is part of a directive issued by the Health Ministry to the health funds, six months ago.

As a result, patients are forced to buy these drugs at "private" pharmacies. The drugs include medicines for treating back and arthritis pain, diabetes, hair loss, impotence and a vaccine against cervical cancer.
