Peres Opens MDA National Blood Drive

President Shim'on Peres opened the Magen David Adom emergency service's national blood drive Sunday at the President's Residence in Jerusalem, with the participation of employees and advisors who were recruited to donate blood to MDA's central blood bank. MDA Director General, Eli Binn, noted that "Magen David Adom is in serious trouble these days due to school vacation and the [upcoming] holiday period and there is a shortage of blood intended for hospital operations."

Peres said, "When they asked David Ben Gurion 'What is the essence of Judaism?' his reply was 'Love thy neighbor as thyself.' Donating blood is a sacred value, saving people and saving lives."
