Yariv Oppenheimer, the head of Peace Now, will issue an official apology to the Samaria (Shomron) Residents’ Council. Oppenheimer is to apologize for accusing the council of encouraging young IDF soldiers to wear shirts saying, “Golani fights enemies, and does not expel Jews.”

In fact, the shirts, which the soldiers wore during an IDF ceremony in mid-2011, were the soldiers’ own idea. The residents’ council praised the soldiers’ action, but had no prior knowledge of their plans.

Oppenheimer agreed to apologize after the Residents’ Council threatened to sue for slander.
