A group of armed men opened fire on Monday night at a checkpoint in el-Arish city in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. A security source told Reuters the attack did not cause deaths or injuries.

A similar incident took place on Sunday when two men in a four-wheel-drive vehicle opened fire on a police station in the city. Police fired back but the men escaped, the source said.
